Centro Sviluppo Materiali organizes since 1997 the Steelmaster, a yearly course aimed at managers, technical staff, white collar workers, trade union officials, consultant and experts, connected with the steel industry. It has in 2013 reached its seventeenth edition.


The main objective of the course is to provide a wide range of skills that enable participants to have a complete picture  of the steel industry at national, European and international level by providing the operating tools .

The course is organized with the support of Federacciai (Italian Steel Producers Association) and, since 2009, ESTEP support  Steelmaster by including  the course in the most valuable training initiatives on Steel Industry in Europe.


The European Commission has recently mentioned the Steelmaster course as “unique” in the Italian steel industry vocational education panorama.[1]


The Steelmaster modules are offered by experts from a variety of backgrounds, including company executives, academics, leading industrial consultants, and members of international administrations, including the European Institutions, National Ministries and others.


The modules cover the most strategic topics for the steel industry as the changing context of the international steel industry, market and users, International treaties and negotiations, industrial relations, technological innovation and research, company structure, management performance, environmental Issues, financial Issues, HR management, logistics, Health and Safety policies, sustainability. 


The framework of our course foresees two weeks of course (four days and half each), in the distance of one month one from the other, thesis assignation at the end of the second week, a final one day-session for the thesis discussion with a diploma ceremony.


The topics covered in the Steelmaster are:
History of the steel industry, cycles and production technologies in the steel industry structure national, European and international steel market, research and innovation, application of the products, occupational safety, environmental impact, financial statement analysis, logistics, organizational aspects, quality assurance and sustainability report, recruitment and evaluation of human resources.
