Improvement of hearth drainage efficiency and refractory life for high BF productivity and a well adjusted reductant injection rate at varying coke quality

ABSTRACT

The general objective of the project is to improve of the tapping strategy by means of the integration of radar measurement with a mathematical model. In this project 4 radars have been purchased and installed in the Lucchini BF 4 cast houses in order to measure the liquid level into the torpedo ladle. In order to fix the radars 4 flanges, located above the torpedo ladle entrance, have been realized.

 

The radar measurement and the BF burden data are used as input of the mathematical model developed by CSM to calculate the tapping flow rate and the trend of the liquid level into the hearth during the whole cast cycle. The on-line liquid level into the hearth has been used to improve the Lucchini tapping strategy actuates in case of the slag delay exceeds a threshold value.
